The story behind the work
Die Geschichte hinter dem Werk
In 2005 a new chapter of my life began in Hawaii. I was still travelling back and forth between Germany and Hawaii, building a life for myself on the island. I lived in a green cottage at Magic Sunrise in the Wailua Valley on Kauaʻi, below the Hindu temple.
Papaya and breadfruit trees grew all around me; roosters, frogs, waterfalls and the lush vegetation were part of everyday life. I loved the simplicity of that life and being outdoors all the time. The fresh bananas, the pineapples and the coffee made me happy.
It was in these surroundings that I also worked on my novel “Sophia und Orpheus”. The painting is the memory of a home that, for me, brought together freedom and a sense of shelter.
