The story behind the work
Die Geschichte hinter dem Werk
Around 2005 I painted live in front of an audience during a performance at the Mönchmühle in Höxter. I sang, danced and let the movement flow into the painting. At that time the Mönchmühle was a place where I could connect my painting directly with voice and dance. What mattered to me was the freedom to include the body and the voice as part of the artistic process.
The support was a bed sheet. This unusual material made me work differently than on a tightly stretched canvas. I did not want to create a smooth surface; I wanted the events of the performance to remain visible in the picture. Yellow, blue and red became a lively composition.
Looking back, I recognise figures and an embryonic form in the spaces of colour. The painting holds on to a moment of shared, immediate creativity.
